22 million euros for Mellon Blue - what's behind it?
  News / Story
The famous blue diamond "Mellon Blue" was auctioned in Geneva for 20.525 million Swiss francs (around 22 million euros). The gemstone has 9.51 carats, is classified as Fancy Vivid Blue and is considered one of the rarest stones of its kind. Once owned by art collector Rachel "Bunny" Mellon, it is now one of the most expensive blue diamonds ever sold.
  Relevance for the target group
The sale shows once again that colored diamonds are the supreme discipline in the field of luxurious investments. They are rare, sought-after and hardly subject to the usual market fluctuations. Blue tones in particular have been achieving top prices for years - a trend that has been confirmed once again with this record.
  Mini guide / Classification
What makes Mellion Blue so special?

Fancy Vivid Blue: the highest rating for color saturation

Frequently asked questions about Mokume Gane (FAQ)
  What is Mokume Gane?
Mokume Gane is a traditional forging technique using precious metals joined in layers to create natural, wood grain-like patterns. Each pair of rings is unique and handmade.
How are Mokume Gane wedding rings made at Wiesner Jewelry?
Several layers of metal are joined together seamlessly under heat and pressure, then compacted, patterned and shaped into rings. This creates an individual pattern for each pair in our workshop. More information: Workshop insights

What is the difference between mokume gane and damask steel?
Both techniques create layered patterns, but mokume gane uses precious metals and the layers are diffusion-welded - ideal for elegant, corrosion-resistant wedding rings.
