Diogo Mokume Gane Jewelry Ring – Cut Pattern with Three-Dimensional Depth

In the Diogo Mokume Gane jewelry ring, the pattern is created through a special form of metalworking. Specific areas are cut out of the previously forged and layered material. This brings deeper layers of metal to the surface, forming a vibrant pattern.

This technique is also known as Carved Mokume Gane. Unlike purely surface-level texturing, this process directly alters the metal composite. The result is a jewelry ring whose pattern is defined not only by different metal colors but also by the precise removal of material.

Carved Mokume Gane – Patterns Created by Material Removal

The foundation is a Mokume Gane composite made of metals of different colors. The individual layers are permanently bonded together through fire welding and are then forged and shaped.

During further processing, selected areas of the material are cut into or carved out, revealing the underlying layers. Depending on the depth and direction of the cuts, different lines, surfaces, and color transitions emerge.

The pattern is thus an integral part of the metal itself. It is neither printed nor applied afterward.

A ring with a unique pattern

The carved structures are created during the artisanal processing of the metal composite. Even slight differences in the direction and depth of the cuts alter the visible pattern.

This gives every Diogo ring its own unique character. The interplay between the metal layers and the exposed areas is what creates the distinctive effect of this Mokume Gane technique.

Handcrafted Production in Our Goldsmith’s Workshop

Master goldsmith Markus Wiesner has been working with the Japanese Mokume Gane forging technique for many years. In our workshop in Beilstein, we create jewelry featuring a variety of patterns, material combinations, and crafting techniques.

The Diogo ring showcases a variation in which the deliberate cutting of the layered material defines the design.

You can find additional models in our Mokume Gane Jewelry Rings category. The Mokume Gane Wedding Bands category provides an overview of our seamlessly forged wedding bands.

If you have any questions about the Diogo ring or the cut Mokume Gane technique, we’d be happy to advise you in person or by phone.
