Bongosi plays with an unusual contrast: a bold, dynamic Mokume-Gane grain meets a distinctly calmer, lighter ring area. A gently curving line runs between the two, not sharply delineating the vibrant pattern but allowing it to blend softly into the simpler surface.

The combination of 500 palladium and 925 silver is deliberately understated in color. Instead of varying shades of gold, light gray and silver tones define the overall effect. This brings the grain itself into the spotlight—its waves, gradients, and shifts in direction become the defining character of these Mokume Gane rings.

Two precious metals with a light, high-contrast character

For Bongosi, we use 500 palladium and 925 silver. Both precious metals fall within a light color palette, yet differ sufficiently from one another to ensure that the individual layers and the resulting grain pattern are clearly visible.

The precious metal layers are built up in our own goldsmith’s workshop and permanently fused together to form the Mokume-Gane layered material. This solid composite material is then forged, rolled, and further processed until the characteristic Bongosi pattern emerges.

The pattern is therefore neither engraved nor applied later. It emerges directly from the interlinked layers of precious metals. As a result, each newly crafted pair of rings develops its own unique lines and remains one-of-a-kind despite its recognizable Bongosi character.

Seamlessly forged

Bongosi is crafted seamlessly from solid Mokume-Gane layered material. There is no visible solder joint where the grain pattern abruptly ends.

The pattern can therefore unfold all the way around the ring and appears continuous even where the bold Mokume-Gane grain transitions into the simpler parts of the ring.

Especially for a design that deliberately plays on this contrast, the seamless construction is crucial: the pattern, wavy line, and smooth surface are all part of a single ring’s design—not merely a decorative element attached to it.

Diamonds as a Deliberate Accent

In the Bongosi design shown here, a delicate row of diamonds follows the curved transition line between the Mokume-Gane grain and the plain band.

In the women’s ring pictured, 64 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling 0.32 ct were set. The stones echo the movement of the wavy line and create a clear highlight without obscuring the actual Mokume-Gane pattern.

The diamond setting is a design element and not a necessary component of the Bongosi pattern. Even without diamonds, the design thrives on the contrast between the bold grain and the calm, light-colored band.

Custom-made for you

The pair of Bongosi rings shown here is a previously crafted example and serves to illustrate the character of this model. Your own pair of rings will be newly crafted for you and will develop its own unique grain pattern during the handcrafted production process.

The rings shown are 8.5 mm wide and have a profile height of approximately 2 mm. The profile is concave on the inside and slightly convex on the outside.

The diamond setting along the wavy transition line can be included or omitted in the custom design. This allows the Bongosi to be designed either with a deliberately simple look or with a clearly visible line of light.

Extraordinary wedding rings for lovers of bold contrasts

Bongosi differs significantly from Mokume-Gane designs, in which the grain pattern uniformly covers the entire visible surface of the ring. Here, the pattern is intentionally given a calm counterpoint.

The bold lines of palladium and silver almost resemble a dynamic landscape that transitions into a simple, light-colored surface along a gently curved border. This allows Bongosi to remain expressive without appearing equally restless across the entire surface.

The combination of purely light-colored materials also contributes to this impression. Instead of warm gold or red tones, the design focuses on subtle shades of gray and silver. As a result, these extraordinary wedding bands are among the more modern and cooler variations of our Mokume Gane rings.

Bongosi is particularly well-suited for couples who appreciate a clearly recognizable Mokume Gane grain but also value calm surfaces and a clean form. It is precisely this contrast that gives the design its unique character.

Handcrafted in our goldsmith’s workshop

With Bongosi, too, production does not begin with pre-purchased Mokume Gane material. Master goldsmith Markus Wiesner builds up the layers of 500 palladium and 925 silver in our own goldsmith’s workshop and permanently fuses them together.

The visible grain is then created from this solid layered material through forging, rolling, and precise shaping. How the lines run, where they converge, and how the wavy structure ultimately emerges all develop during this artisanal process.

The basic principle behind Bongosi can be replicated in a new piece. However, the exact lines cannot be reproduced identically, as with an industrially produced design. This is precisely what makes the rings truly one-of-a-kind, handcrafted pieces.
