Mokume Gane Kora Stud Earrings – Clean Lines and Vibrant Metal Patterns

The Mokume Gane Kora stud earrings combine a simple, slightly elongated shape with a vibrant pattern created from three different-colored precious metals. The clean geometry provides a calm contrast to the irregular lines of the Mokume Gane material.

Master goldsmith and silversmith Markus Wiesner crafts these jewelry pieces from 750 yellow gold, 500 palladium, and 925 silver in his own workshop. Through the artisanal processing of the layered metal composite, each pair of stud earrings receives its own unique pattern.

Burl Wood Patterns in Yellow Gold, Palladium, and Silver

In the approximately 360-year-old Japanese Mokume Gane forging technique, multiple layers of different metals are fused together. Subsequent rolling, forging, and precise shaping create the characteristic, wood-like patterns.

In the Kora model, a burl wood pattern is created, with lines that extend across the surface of the stud earrings. The warm 750 yellow gold provides a striking contrast to the gray areas of the 500 palladium and the light 925 silver.

The pattern is not a decoration applied afterward. It arises directly from the bonded metal layers and is thus an integral part of the piece of jewelry.

Geometric stud earrings, 14.5 mm high

The Kora stud earrings are 14.5 mm high, 9.7 mm wide, and 2 mm thick. Their slightly elongated shape provides a continuous surface that showcases the different metal colors and pattern lines to their best advantage.

The surface has a satin finish. This allows the various precious metals and the fine structures of the rootwood pattern to stand out without strong reflections distracting from the pattern.

Rhodium-plated silver back with stud post

The Mokume Gane jewelry elements are mounted on a 925 silver backing. The earring posts are also made of silver.

The silver parts are electroplated with a layer of rhodium in our goldsmith’s workshop. This protects the surface from tarnishing and ensures a uniformly bright color on the back.

Each pair of stud earrings features a unique pattern

The patterns on the Kora stud earrings are individually crafted during the handmade production process. Both pieces are designed to complement each other, though their patterns do not have to be completely identical.

These subtle differences are part of what gives Mokume Gane its unique character. Even with the same metal combination and identical basic shape, new patterns emerge time and again.
