Mokume Gane Paru Interchangeable Clasp – a sphere with a unique pattern

The Mokume Gane Paru interchangeable clasp combines the function of a necklace clasp with the design of a standalone piece of jewelry. Its spherical surface features a vibrant pattern of palladium and silver. Thanks to its integrated interchangeable mechanism, Paru can be used with various pre-prepared bead and gemstone necklaces.

Master goldsmith Markus Wiesner crafts the spherical clasp in our workshop in Beilstein. In the process, 500 palladium and 925 silver are welded together to form a layered metal composite and then finished by hand.

Mokume Gane Made of Palladium and Silver

In the Japanese Mokume Gane forging technique, layers of different-colored metals are permanently bonded together. The subsequent forging, rolling, and precise finishing create patterns reminiscent of the grain of wood.

For Paru, we use palladium and silver. The varying shades of gray form a subtle yet clearly recognizable pattern.

A distinctive feature is the shaping of the layered material into a spherical form. This process also alters the flow of the pattern lines. As a result, each clasp has its own unique pattern that cannot be replicated identically.

20 mm sphere diameter with interchangeable mechanism

The Paru clasp shown here has a diameter of 20 mm and weighs approximately 11.1 grams. Inside is a ball-head interchangeable mechanism.

This allows the clasp to be removed from one compatible chain and attached to another. A matching counterpart of the clasp system is required.

For example, the same Mokume Gane bead can be combined with a pearl necklace or a gemstone necklace without needing a separate clasp for each chain.

With or without diamonds

The Paru clasp can also be crafted with a full circle of diamonds. The version shown here, set with brilliant-cut diamonds, features 62 diamonds totaling 0.31 carats in Top Wesselton quality, with very small inclusions.

The stones run all the way around the sphere. Since a spherical clasp can rotate when worn, this ensures that some diamonds remain visible regardless of its position.

Perfect for pearl and gemstone necklaces

Paru has been paired with rose quartz, onyx, foam coral, and Tahitian pearls, among other materials. The key to interchangeability is the matching ball-head mechanism.

In addition to the 20 mm diameter version, smaller clasps with diameters ranging from 10 to 18 mm are also available upon request.
