Mokume Gane Iroko Hoop Earrings – Two Metals with a Unique Pattern
The Mokume Gane Iroko Hoop Earrings are crafted from a layered metal composite of palladium and silver. The two precious metals form a subtle, two-tone pattern that extends across the curved surface of the earrings.
Master goldsmith and silversmith Markus Wiesner crafts these special hoop earrings in his own workshop. The artisanal processing of the Mokume Gane material creates unique patterns, making each pair of earrings one-of-a-kind.
Palladium and Silver – Subtle Contrasts
The Japanese Mokume Gane forging technique, which dates back some 360 years, involves welding different layers of metal together. Subsequent forging and precise shaping create the characteristic, often wood-like textures.
The Iroko model combines palladium and silver. The more grayish palladium stands out against the lighter silver. Unlike Mokume Gane jewelry made with yellow or red gold, this creates a cool, silvery-gray color effect.
The patterns are not decorations applied afterward. They arise directly from the fused metal layers and are thus an integral part of the material.
Hoop earrings with a diameter of 18 mm
With a width of 7.5 mm and a diameter of 18 mm, the Iroko hoop earrings have a compact yet clearly visible shape.
The wide surface provides ample space for the fine lines and textures of the Mokume Gane pattern. Due to the curvature of the earrings, the visible pattern changes depending on the viewing angle.
The simple design deliberately lets the two precious metals and their unique structure take center stage.
Individually patterned hoop earrings from our own workshop
The pattern emerges anew with every pair of Iroko hoop earrings. Both earrings are designed to complement each other, though their patterns do not have to be completely identical.
It is precisely these small differences that are typical of hand-forged Mokume Gane and give the jewelry its unique character.
