Three Precious Metals – Cool Grain with Warm Gold Lines

For Tiami , we use 750 yellow gold, 500 palladium, and 925 silver. In the design shown, palladium and silver form the light to gray base pattern. Two closely spaced lines of 750 yellow gold run through this structure, creating a warm contrast.

We produce the Mokume-Gane layered material for this ourselves in our goldsmith’s workshop. The different layers of precious metals are welded together and then forged, rolled, and further processed. It is only during this process that the layering opens up and the visible grain pattern emerges.

The colors are therefore neither applied nor added later. They arise from the precious metals themselves. As a result, each line possesses depth and is an integral part of the ring’s material.

In the Tiami design shown here, several layers of palladium and silver, together with the two lines of yellow gold, form the basis of the pattern. The basic character can be recreated in a new piece—but the grain cannot be copied exactly. Each pair of Tiami rings develops its own pattern and remains one-of-a-kind.

Seamlessly forged

We craft Tiami from solid Mokume-Gane layered material without any distracting solder joints. As a result, the pattern does not end at a visible joint but can flow seamlessly around the entire ring.

This manufacturing method is particularly beautiful with Tiami’s dynamic, undulating grain pattern. The lines continue, disappearing from view at the sides and reappearing elsewhere. As a result, the ring has no distinct front or back—its pattern wraps completely around it.

Diamonds as a Deliberate Accent

Tiami’s two yellow gold lines offer various options for diamond setting. For example, small diamonds can be arranged between the two gold lines, following their path.

Similarly, a more pronounced line of the natural Mokume-gane grain can be highlighted with several diamonds. A single, slightly larger diamond is also possible with this design.

The prominence of the diamond setting can thus be customized in many ways—ranging from a single point of light to a delicate row that follows part of the grain pattern.

Custom-made for you

The Tiami ring pair shown here is a design example. Your own pair will be crafted specifically for you. The Mokume-Gane grain is also recreated anew during the handcrafted process.

The ring width can be selected between 4 and 10 mm. The described profile is slightly domed on the inside and flat on the outside, with softly rounded edges.

The diamond setting can also be customized to your preferences within the limits of technical feasibility. Thus, Tiami can remain very minimalist, focusing solely on the effect of the three precious metals, or it can be enhanced with individual diamonds to create additional points of light.

Handcrafted in our goldsmith’s workshop

For us, the creation of Tiami does not begin with ready-made Mokume-Gane material. Master goldsmith Markus Wiesner produces the layered material himself right here in our goldsmith’s workshop. Palladium, silver, and yellow gold are prepared, assembled into a layered stack, and welded together.

The actual grain pattern then develops from this material through forging, rolling, and further targeted processing. Lines become visible, change direction, and stand out with varying intensity. The two yellow gold lines remain a defining element within the free-form structure.

We can influence the character of a pattern, but we cannot reproduce an industrially identical design. That is precisely why no two pairs of Tiami rings are alike. The grain pattern emerges during the manufacturing process—and remains the unique signature of that one specific pair.
