Two Precious Metals and 19 Layers

For Abura, we use 750 yellow gold and 500 palladium. A total of 19 layers of precious metals are built up in alternating sequences and permanently fused together in our goldsmith’s workshop.

This solid Mokume Gane layered material is then forged, rolled, and carefully refined. Only through this process do the individual layers open up, and the characteristic Abura grain gradually emerges.

The various color effects are neither applied nor dyed afterward. They arise directly from the precious metals themselves. The warm yellow gold forms the clearly visible golden portion, while palladium creates the lighter, grayer lines and areas.

The basic character of the pattern can be replicated in a new piece. However, the exact course of each individual line is recreated anew during the handcrafted process. That is why every pair of Abura rings has its own unique pattern and remains a truly one-of-a-kind piece.

Seamlessly forged

Like our Mokume Gane rings, Abura is also seamlessly forged from solid layered material. There is no visible solder joint that would interrupt the pattern.

The flowing wood grain benefits from this in particular. The lines can continue all the way around the ring, forming a continuous pattern that changes with every turn of the finger.

As a result, there is no rigid front or back. Different areas of the grain come into view again and again, while golden and gray lines meander across the surface, giving the ring a slightly different look from every angle.

Diamonds as a Deliberate Accent

Abura offers particularly beautiful opportunities to integrate diamonds directly into the flow of the Mokume-gane grain. In the designs shown, the diamond setting follows the curved lines of the pattern and thus does not appear to be a jewelry element added as an afterthought.

In a particularly elaborate variation, up to 64 diamonds can be set in a channel setting along the lines of the pattern. The diamonds can be tailored to the individual grain pattern and the desired effect of the ring.

Especially when combined with warm yellow gold, this creates charming reflections of light. At the same time, even without any gemstones, Abura remains an expressive Mokume Gane ring in which the natural grain of yellow gold and palladium takes center stage.

Custom-made for you

The Abura rings shown here are examples of previously crafted designs. Your own pair of rings will be newly crafted for you, with the Mokume Gane grain pattern emerging anew during the crafting process.

The ring width can be chosen between 4 and 13 mm. The standard design described here has a profile height of approximately 2 mm. This, too, can be adjusted within the limits of technical feasibility.

The inside is slightly curved for comfortable wear. Surface finishes include, among others, a satin-matte, sandblasted finish or a classic matte brushed finish running lengthwise.

The diamond setting is not determined by a rigid formula either. The pattern, number, and effect can be tailored to the individual design and your preferences. This allows Abura to appear very minimalist and highlight the material, or to gain additional presence through fine diamond lines.

Extraordinary wedding rings for lovers of warm gold tones

Abura is one of the Mokume-Gane designs in which the warm character of gold is particularly evident. The 750 yellow gold runs visibly through the grain and is accompanied by lighter palladium lines, without making the ring appear cold.

From a distance, the surface appears calm and harmonious. Only upon closer inspection does it become clear just how many individual lines, transitions, and subtle color shifts are contained within the grain. Some areas appear more golden, while others reveal more of the light palladium—and it is precisely this interplay that makes Abura appear fresh and new time and again.

It is precisely this balance that makes the design appealing to couples who want unique wedding rings but do not want to forgo the classic warmth of yellow gold. What makes this ring special is not the greatest possible variety of colors, but rather the interplay of two precious metals and the depth of the handcrafted grain pattern.

Handcrafted in our goldsmith’s workshop

For us, the creation of Abura begins with the Mokume-Gane layered material. Master goldsmith Markus Wiesner arranges the individual layers of 750 yellow gold and 500 palladium and fuses them together in our own goldsmith’s workshop to form a durable composite material.

Only then does the visible grain pattern emerge through forging, rolling, and further targeted processing. The lines are therefore neither an engraving nor an applied decoration, but are worked out from within the layered material itself.

During this process, new areas of the individual precious metal layers continually emerge. Golden lines may widen, narrow, or curve gently across the surface, while the palladium provides bright contrasts and further emphasizes the structure.

The character of Abura is recognizable, but an exact replica of the pattern cannot be industrially reproduced. Each step of the process alters the flow of the layers slightly. It is precisely this that gives rise to the unique pattern of every single pair of rings.
