Mokume Gane Kora Interchangeable Clasp – Three Precious Metals in One Grain Pattern

The Mokume Gane Kora Interchangeable Clasp combines the warm color of yellow gold with the cooler tones of palladium and silver. The shield-shaped design creates a vibrant interplay of three precious metals, whose forged lines vary from piece to piece.

As the visible clasp of a pearl or gemstone necklace, Kora becomes a decorative element in its own right. The geometric shape is derived from the Mokume Silver collection designed by Michael Wiesner and provides a clear framework for the unique metal pattern.

Hand-forged Mokume Gane made of gold, palladium, and silver

Master goldsmith Markus Wiesner crafts the patterned upper section from 750 yellow gold, 500 palladium, and 925 silver. The different layers of precious metals are fused together in a furnace and then worked through forging, patterning, and rolling.

This process creates the characteristic lines of the Japanese Mokume Gane technique. Gold-colored areas alternate with bright silver and gray structures. Unlike a surface decoration applied later, the pattern emerges directly from the layered metal composite.

The pattern of the grain cannot be replicated exactly. This gives each Kora interchangeable clasp its own unique character.

A jewelry clasp designed to be worn visibly

The Kora clasp is designed not to disappear behind the neck, but to be worn at the front of the necklace. There, it functions as a pendant in its own right while simultaneously connecting the two ends of the chain.

Ball-head mechanisms integrated on the sides allow it to be used with appropriately equipped pearl and gemstone necklaces. This means the clasp can be swapped between compatible necklaces as needed.

Three-tone design without diamond setting

In this version, the Mokume-Gane surface is intentionally left without diamonds. The yellow-gold lines provide a pop of color and highlight the natural flow of the grain.

The combination of a clean shield shape and a custom-forged structure makes Kora a understated yet unusual alternative to classic pearl clasps.
