Mokume Gane Kokoro Interchangeable Clasp – A Heart Crafted from Three Precious Metals
The Mokume Gane Kokoro Interchangeable Clasp combines a gently curved, asymmetrical heart shape with the vibrant grain of yellow gold, palladium, and silver. Warm gold lines run through the light and gray metal surfaces, giving the piece an expressive yet harmonious color effect.
“Kokoro” means “heart” in Japanese. The design is by Michael Wiesner and is part of the Mokume Silver collection. Unlike a classic pearl clasp, Kokoro is intentionally worn visible on the front of a necklace. There, it serves as both a decorative element and a functional clasp.
Three-Tone Mokume Gane – Custom-Forged
Master goldsmith Markus Wiesner crafts the patterned upper section from 750 yellow gold, 500 palladium, and 925 silver. The different layers of precious metals are permanently fused together through fire welding and are then forged and patterned.
This process creates the structures typical of Mokume Gane, reminiscent of wood grain. The yellow gold provides warm accents between the bright silver and gray areas. The pattern is formed directly within the layered metal and is not an applied coating.
Each Kokoro clasp has its own unique pattern. The flow and distribution of the metal colors vary from piece to piece.
Asymmetrical heart shape with unique grain
The slightly irregular heart shape is a key design feature of Kokoro. Its soft curves provide a calm contrast to the dynamic metal pattern.
Measuring approximately 15 mm in both length and width, the clasp remains compact. The surface can be finished with a glass-matte or brushed matte finish. Both finishes highlight the texture of the three precious metals.
Interlocking mechanism for pearl and gemstone necklaces
The back of the jewelry element is made of 500 palladium. Ball-head clasp mechanisms integrated into the sides allow it to be attached to compatible pearl and gemstone necklaces.
With matching counterparts, Kokoro can be removed from one necklace and inserted into another. This allows different necklaces to be combined with the same Mokume Gane interchangeable clasp.
A pearl or gemstone necklace is not included in the price.
